See You Saturday at the Hillman City Block Party!

We're so excited for the Hillman City Block Party this Saturday! Our amazing neighbors have put together an awesome event, with something special for everyone from 11am to 11pm - including a kids' zone at the Onda Origins coffee shop, beer gardens at Hillman City Taphouse and Machine House, electrifying live music across the neighborhood, and sweet specials and discounts from Hillman City's small businesses, from beauty products to artwork & framing and even free 'locs for kids. You don't wanna miss this one ... see you on Saturday!

Beatwalk Goes Global with World Beats

This Sunday, swing by Rainier & Ferdinand for some world beats & rhythms at one of the last Columbia City Beatwalk events of the summer!

Beatwalk is celebrating its 30th anniversary in style, and Sunday's lineup is going to slap. DJ Kole kicks things off at 4pm, followed by the Washington Diamonds Drill Team and the Beatwalk debut of the Tonga Island Dancers! High-energy Latin band Reposado will rock the block at 6pm, and DJ Supreme La Rock will take the stage at 8pm. Many thanks to the generous sponsors who make this free all-ages event possible.

In honor of National Black Business Month, Sunday will also feature a Black Marketplace (BMP) in the Bank of America parking lot at Rainier & Edmunds from 10am to 3pm, so check out some more awesome live music and find some great products from local black-owned businesses. Throughout Sunday afternoon and evening, there will be additional live music and specials around the neighborhood, including at Tutta Bella, Backyard, Columbia City Alehouse, Columbia City Theater, Royal Esquire Club, Royal Room, and Rumba Notes Lounge.

Neighbors Slay the Runway at Fashion Fest

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us on July 28 for the Rainier Valley Fashion Fest at Othello-UW Commons. Many neighbors picked up free clothes and accessories (generously donated by our community!) at the clothing exchange, and we got to enjoy a beautiful show featuring music and fashion from Mexico, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cameroon, Somalia, and more. We're grateful to all the vendors who participated, and to leading sponsors HomeSight, the Somali Independent Business Alliance, and the Central District Chamber of Commerce.

The Food's Always Golden at Fry Zone

We're so excited to welcome Fry Zone to the neighborhood! This business opened July 4 at the corner of Rainier & Juneau, and their amazing all-halal menu has been satisfying our summer cravings ever since.

If you love fries, welcome to heaven ... You can find fries with all kinds of seasonings, or level up to their loaded fries packed with Asian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, or BBQ flavors. Not a fry guy? They also have gyros, chicken sandwiches, and even chicken & waffles!

If you haven't been to Fry Zone yet, this weekend is the perfect time to visit - they'll be open during the Hillman City Block Party on Saturday and will unveil a brand new combo meal. Don't miss it! 🍟

A New Salon Hatches in Genesee

We'd also like to welcome Hatch Hair & Co. to the neighborhood! All are welcome at this hair studio, which moved into 4527 Rainier this summer. Experienced stylists Micki and Carly have been winning raves for years from their clients and we're thrilled that they've set up shop on Rainier.

The name 'Hatch' honors Micki's great-grandparents, who ran the Hatch Barber Shop in Salina, Utah. If you're seeking a new summer look, make a booking today!
